Jeff Karstens made what was expected to be his final rehab appearance after going on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation on April 18th. In four and one third, Karstens allowed two earned runs on one hit. He also had masterful control of his arsenal, striking out five of the 15 batters he faced while not walking a single opponent. However, Karstens left the game in the fifth inning after tweaking his leg mid-pitch. Tony Sanchez and Yamaico Navarro both hit their first doubles of the season for AAA Indianapolis and Jeff Clement hit his 17th. Chase d’Arnaud stole his 12th base of the season and Gorkys Hernandez was unable to successfully steal a base, being thrown out for the fourth time this year.
Phil Irwin was solid for the Curve tonight, going six strong innings allowing just one run on seven hits while walking and striking out one. Brock Holt was two-for-four, hitting his eleventh double of the season and walking once. Jarek Cunningham, Quincy Latimore, and Jeremy Farrell all had multi-hit games as well as Holt. The only other Curve to get a hit was third baseman Elevys Gonzalez, who also walked once. Ramon Cabrera and Miles Durham joined Holt and Gonzalez in the base-on-balls parade.
