After taking game one on Tuesday night, the Pirates look to pull themselves within one game of first place by winning tonight’s 7:10 games against the Cincinnati Reds.
Brad Lincoln will make his second start this season for the Pirates tonight. In his first start, Lincoln went six innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits, walking one and striking out three. He also allowed a home run. Overall, Lincoln has a 1.04 ERA this season with a WHIP of 0.92 in 26 innings. Against the Reds, Lincoln has a 3.52 ERA and a WHIP of 1.83 in one career start and three relief appearances.
His sparring partner will be the 5’10” right hander Johnny Cueto. Through 11 season starts, Cueto is playing pretty well, with an ERA of 2.54 (ERA+ is 158), striking out 46 batters in 71 innings for a 5.8 K/9 ratio. Cueto hasn’t performed as well at home as he has on the road, having a 3.04 ERA at home in four starts this season. In his career against the Bucs, Cueto has started 17 games, going 11-4 with a 2.55 ERA and a WHIP of 1.09 in 106 innings.
