After the Reds ended the Pirates’ four-game winning streak in an absolutely brutal fashion last night, the Buccos look to take the series and have pride to end the homestand.
Taking the bump for the Buccos tonight will be righty AJ Burnett. Burnett has been incredible for the Pirates this season. In seven starts, Burnett is 3-2 with a 4.19 ERA, allowing 1.34 walks and hits per inning through 43 innings. At PNC this year, Burnett is 2-0 with a 1.27 ERA and a WHIP of 0.92 through 28 1/3 innings in four starts. Taking away his rocky start in St. Louis on May 2nd, Burnett has a 1.98 ERA through 27 1/3 innings in the month of May, so hopefully he can end the month strong.
Climbing the mound for Cincinnati is 26-year old righty Johnny Cueto. Cueto has started ten games for the Reds, going 5-2 with a 2.53 ERA, striking out 41 over 64 full innings. Cueto has been even more stellar away from Great American, going 3-1 with a 2.23 ERA through 40 1/3 innings.
