As Justin Wilson and the Indianapolis Indians took the field against the Durham Bulls, it was thought to be just another AAA game. That would not be so. The Indianapolis Indians would send three pitchers to the mound — Justin Wilson, Jose Diaz, and Doug Slaten — who ended up combining for a no-hitter.
Justin Wilson, 24, was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the fifth round of the 2008 Amateur Draft. The season before in Indianapolis, Wilson was 10-8 with a 4.13 ERA in 21 starts. Wilson threw 7 1/3 innings without allowing a hit before he was taken out of the game by manager Dean Treanor. Wilson struck out nine batters and walked two. Reliever Jose Diaz was brought in in the eighth inning to retire the remaining two batters and did just that on five pitches. Lefty Doug Slaten came in for the ninth inning to close out the game. After eight pitches, he finished the no-hitter for the Indianapolis Indians.
