According to the Trib’s Dejan Kovacevic, the Pirates are in talks with ex-Buccos pitcher Paul Maholm about a contract. More after the jump.
Maholm’s contract was dropped by the Pirates when his team option year came up in the offseason. He made $5.75 million in 2011, where he threw a 3.66 ERA in 162.1 innings pitched. He was due to make $9.75 million in 2012, but the Pirates declined his option and bought it out for $750,000 instead. He had spent his entire career with the Buccos before this offseason, and as a person I would love to see him pitch through at least one .500 season for the Pirates. He was drafted in ’03 and he has seen some terrors, a la 2008 and 2010.
DK pointed one more thing out: it is unlikely that Maholm will re-sign here, despite negotiations.
