Pirates Sign Jo-Jo Reyes

According to Jen Langosh, the Pirates have signed pitcher Jo-Jo Reyes to a minor-league contract.  Reyes, 27, has a career ERA of 6.05 in 62 starts.  Last season, he played for both the Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles, tossing a 5.57 ERA in 140.2 innings.  He is a left-handed pitcher, which may add a much-needed southpaw to our bullpen, whose only portsider is Twats (what an unfortunate nickname).  Reyes was non-tendered by the Orioles in early December

More after the jump.

One thing that may intrigue the Pirates is the Reyes has much better splits against lefties, so they may bring him into Spring Training with plans on using him as a LOOGY.

Jo-Jo is, however, a young, controllable pitcher who is arbitration eligible through 2014.
