It was a rough night for Kevin Correia as he went just 4 2/3 innings and allowed SEVEN runs, which upped his ERA to 3.01.
The bright spot tonight most likely was Lyle Overpay not actually starting. Brandon Wood took his place at 1B, and went 1-for-3 with the Pirates’ only RBI, scoring Matt Diaz. Diaz started in left tonight with Steve Pearce in right. Presley missed the game with a left thumb CONTUSION. If you are going to miss a game while you’re hitting upwards of .350, at least have a better excuse than a bruise. This is most likely just Clint Hurdle giving Presley a night off, but if he’s going to do that just come out and say it.
Steve Pearce played his first game since coming off the DL yesterday, and, in true Pirate form, went 1-for-4 with a strikeout leaving one on the basepaths. The Pirates amassed 8 hits somehow, but went 1-for-6 with RISP and left 5 of their total 10 baserunners on base. The offense is so stagnant at this point that Chase d’Arnaud is starting at third base. I’m not usually one to go with popular opinion, but at this point we need Alvarez back.
The Buccos hope to avoid the sweep tomorrow as Charlie Morton (8-5, 3.62 ERA) and his electrc stuff takes on Kyle Lohse (8-7, 3.45 ERA).
